Representative hopeful more funds will be available for nursing homes

WATERTOWN, S.D. (KXLG) – District 5 Representative Hugh Bartels (BAR-TULS) of Watertown is hopeful the state can come up with more dollars to help nursing homes. He looks for something bold to emerge from the legislature before they adjourn this year.

Bartels said changes are needed to update what assisted nursing homes can do. He says they need to find a new method of delivery for long term care.

He says Governor Noem is recommending $5 million in innovation grants for nursing homes and $1 million in innovation grants for prenatal care.

Bartels serves on the House Appropriations Committee.
