YANKTON, S.D.(WNAX)- Republicans in the South Dakota House set their leadership team for the 2023 session at a meeting in Pierre last weekend.
Representative Mike Stevens of Yankton was elected Speaker-Pro-Tem. He says they have a lot of new members.
Stevens says they have been talking to all their caucus members since the election.
Representative Will Mortenson of Pierre was elected Majority Leader. Stevens says he is a good choice.
A split among republicans in the South Dakota House may make consensus difficult at time.
Stevens says issues will define the members.
Stevens says he believes there is agreement on the big issues.
Stevens says they don’t have a lot of days in the session to be playing political games.
Republicans will have sixty two of the seventy member House next session.
