Republican representative puzzled by marijuana passage

WATERTOWN, S.D. (KWAT) — Conservative South Dakota has gone “all in” on marijuana.

On Tuesday, voters approved an initiated measure in supporter of medicinal marijuana, and a constitutional amendment legalizing recreational marijuana use.

Republican Representative Nancy York of Watertown, who was unopposed in this week’s election, says she’s puzzled how Republicans made further gains in an already lopsided Legislature, yet the electorate supported pot smoking.

The recreational pot question was approved by 54 percent of voters, while 70-percent supported medicinal marijuana.
