Residents receive the all clear to return home following the fires in the Black Hills

NEMO, S.D.(KOTA & KBHB)- As of 9:00 this morning, all residents of areas evacuated as a result of the Rapid City area fires have received the all clear to return home, with some restrictions.

Right now, the Schroder fire is listed at 86 percent contained, and only one home and two outbuildings are thought to have been lost.

The final two neighborhoods – Nameless Cave Road and Cleghorn Canyon – received the all clear to return home this morning. Other evacuated neighborhoods saw residents return earlier this week.

Operations Section Chief Trainee Nathan Hallam says they had some activity overnight in Cleghorn Canyon, but no threat to allowing residents back in.

He says crews will be working on some uncontained line in the Nameless Cave Road area.

While residents are able to return home, restrictions like being unable to leave one’s home lot and limited travel on the roads remain in place, as well as the ever-present threat of a change in the fire situation.

Residents of these areas have been asked to keep on watch for fire approaching, and have been advised to expect heavy charring in the area when returning home.
