RFID tags, beef labeling concerns of new Cattlemen’s president

SPEARFISH, S.D. (WNAX) – Spearfish cow calf producer Eric Jennings is the new President of the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association. Jennings who was chosen at last week’s state convention takes over for Steve Ollerich.

Jennings says one issue they’re monitoring is the development and implementation of radio frequency identification tags.

He says there are some technical issues to work out on the RFID tags with the major goal of improving animal disease traceability.

Jennings say another concern of their Association is having proper beef labeling.

He says beef needs to be labeled Product of the USA but that that label needs to be voluntary to ensure consumers are getting what they want.
