Rich Krokel provides update on the Essential Air Service Offers for the Aberdeen Airport

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- Today is the final day the US Department of Transportation are receiving feedback regarding the offers from Skywest & Denver Air Connection for the Essential Air Service contract for the Aberdeen Airport.

Aberdeen Transportation Director Rich Krokel talks about how long the Airport has been affiliated with Skywest.

The Aberdeen Airport is currently in conjunction with the Airport in Bemidji, MN.  Krokel tells us how that came about.

Krokel reminds us of the offers the USDOT are looking at.

The offers for the Bemidji Airport is Skywest at about $1.6 million and Denver Air is around $3.2 million.  USDOT must agree for one agency for both airports.

Krokel also mentions the Skywest offer has flights included during pheasant hunting season which has not been there in previous contracts.

Krokel has had talks with Senator John Thune’s office.

Krokel talks about how to make comments regarding the offers to the USDOT.

Krokel believes a decision will be reached by the end of the year.  The contract with Skywest expires in March of 2022.
