The funeral service for Richard Beck, 71, of Roscoe, South Dakota, will be 10:00AM, Monday, December 30, 2024, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with Pastor Jeff Whillock officiating. The family would appreciate all in attendance to wear Vikings or Twins colors or apparel. Burial at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. Richard Beck died Sunday, December 22, 2024, at his home in Roscoe, SD.
Visitation will be 3:00-7:00PM Sunday, December 29, with family present from 5:00-7:00PM, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street.
Richard John Beck was born August 8, 1953, to Reuben and Bernice (Roesch) Beck in Roscoe, SD. He grew up there and attended Edmunds Central, graduating in 1971. He was active in gymnastics, football, band and was homecoming king. As a child, Richard’s family had a pet monkey that would ride on the back of their dog.
Richard was united in marriage to Deborah Lynn Flagtvedt on May 3, 1975, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. They made their home in Aberdeen. Richard worked at Martin Beach as a lineman, Evergreen Supply, ShopKo, and Johnson Motors. He also worked at Helens California Kitchen, Olsons, and retired from Aberdeen Housing Authority in 2019.
Richard was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. In the past he was active in the church and served as an usher. Richard played the guitar and played in a band. He liked hunting and being outdoors. Gardening was a passion of his that would take hours of his time. He also canned much of the food that he raised. Richard was an avid Vikings and Twins fan. He also followed Taylor Swift after seeing her perform in Aberdeen when she was starting her career. Always ready to help, Richard often helped fix bikes, cars and whatever was needed for his family. “Papa time” with his grandchildren brought him great joy.
Grateful for having shared Richard’s life are his daughters: Stacy Beck and Sara Beck; his grandchildren: Madalynn, Molly, Mara, Macy, Monet, Owen, and Oliver; one great-grandchild: Vayda Lynn; and his brothers: Greg (Rita) Beck and David Beck.
Preceding Richard in death are his parents, wife Deborah, and his grandson Reuben.
