Richmond Dam project needs more legislative funding

PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- On Wednesday, bids were received for the Richmond Dam & spillway.  The Engineer’s estimate was in the neighborhood of 26 million dollars.  Of the three bids that were received, the lowest bid came in at 30.7 million dollars from Ames Construction out of Burnsville, M.N.

On Thursday, the House Committee on Appropriation talked about SB121.  The original title of the bill was make an appropriation for developing the economic viability of South Dakota.

An amendment was placed on the bill and Representative Al Novstrup of Aberdeen explained what the amendment does.

The committee approved the amendment so now the title is “transfer moeys and make an appropriation
for the replacement of the Richmond Lake dam and spillway and to declare an emergency.

The committee passed the bill as amended on a 8-0 vote.  The bill is scheduled to be debate by the South Dakota House on Monday.
