ABERDEEN, S.D. (Hub City Radio)- September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.  One preson this week is looking to raise awareness for veterans and first responders.  Alan Zeitvogel(Zite-Vo-Gel) is a former military man and first responder who’s looking to raise awareness this week on his motorcycle ride on US HWY 281 this week.

The journey began on Monday at the Canadian border near Dunseith, N.D. and will end on Saturday at the Mexican border near Brownsville, T.X.

Why did he choose HWY 281?  Zeitvogel is also an American Legion member and reminds everyone that this highway is nicknamed the American Legion highway.

Zeitvogel shared his story about how he almost committed suicide and how a friend calling him saved him.
