RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – A robbery took place at a Mount Rushmore Road convenience store Monday which peaked in a foot chase between officers and a leading suspect in the case.
Rapid City Police Department community relations specialist Brendyn Medina said the employee at the convenience store had been threatened by the assailant.
The employee, complying with the demands of the assailant, went into a back office, remaining there as the suspect stole from behind the counter, leaving before police arrived on the scene.
A stroke of luck changed the dynamic of the incident though.
Medina highlighted the very strong working relationship between the two offices, adding that it’s not unusual for the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office to assist in Rapid City Police Department efforts, and vice versa.
The suspect in the robbery case was identified as 21 year-old Kaleb Grady of Rapid City, and was placed under arrest for 2nd degree robbery.
