Robert “Bob” Lee Basham was born on January 18, 1941, to Marvin and Hazel (Hume) Basham in Rapid City, South Dakota. He grew up and attended school in Rapid City, graduating in 1959. On June 11, 1959, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1965.

Following his military service, Bob began working for Midcontinent Cable in Sturgis. He later moved to Aberdeen, where he continued his career as Head Engineer, working for the company for 35 years until his retirement.

On November 22, 1978, Bob married Deanna “De” Siert at First United Methodist Church, and together they made their home in Aberdeen. Bob was a proud and devoted father and grandfather. He cherished attending his children’s events and later enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their many activities.

Camping was a favorite pastime for Bob and De. Together, they traveled to many places and were long time members of the Good Sam Club. Throughout Bob’s life, his passions included reading and watching westerns, following car races, archery, and target practice.

Bob had a special fondness for old Jeeps, including a 1960 Jeep Willy that became the ‘kid car’ and was passed down to each of his children. He was known as a hardworking man who was quiet in nature but very kind.

Bob and De were longtime members of North Highland United Methodist Church, where Bob faithfully served on the Board of Trustees.

Grateful for having shared Bob’s life are his wife, Deanna Basham; his children: Lionell (Tammy) Siert, DeLynn (Todd) Vang, Dustunn (Alexis) Basham, and Brandee (Jordan) Wald; his grandchildren: Dillon Siert, Brooke Siert, Spencer Vang, Jillian Vang, Avery Vang, Paige Vang, Kenzington Basham, Hendrix Basham, Sullivan Basham, and Oliver Basham; Benjamin Wald; and his brother, Mike Basham and family.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Hazel Basham, and his stepson, Dillon Siert.
