PIERRE, S.D. (KCCR) – South Dakota Governor Krist Noem issued an executive order that would combine the state Agriculture Department with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. While Noem was issued the order, the man set to run the agency was appearing before the Senate Ag and Natural Resources to detail the changes. Hunter Roberts indicated some rollover has begun.
Roberts says the move should provide more transparency.
The move also looks to improve efficiencies of government.
Five full-time FTE’s will be cut with the merger that still needs approval of state Legislators. Another change will be the moving of Wildland Fire from the Ag Department to the Department of Public Safety.
