WASHINGTON, D.C. (WNAX) – As part of an economic stimulus plan, President Trump signed an executive order suspending collection of the payroll tax, which funds Social Security and Medicare.
South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds says doing that would cause other financial issues.
Rounds says the trust accounts for Social Security and Medicare are already having problems.
Rounds says there is little interest in Congress to implement any type of payroll tax cut. Most businesses continue to withhold those taxes from workers’ paychecks.
