Rounds’ wife casts only vote against wall around Governor’s Residence

PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – The wife of South Dakota U.S. Senator Mike Rounds, Jean Rounds, cast the only vote against the building of an eight-foot tall wrought iron security fence around the Governor’s Residence in Pierre last Friday. The Senator says that vote was made with discussion but no input from him.

Rounds says it’s not his place to question what those who come after him are doing.

Rounds says the vote from his wife was personal.

The security fence must still be approved by the Capitol Complex Restoration and Beautification Commission prior to installation. Significant private funds are being raised to pay for the barrier.
