Rural electric cooperatives seeing issues with increase demand and limited construction materials

MARION, S.D.(WNAX)- Demand for new service along with a slow down in construction materials is creating some issues for rural electric cooperatives.

Brad Schardin, Manager of Southeastern Electric based in Marion, says they are getting lots of requests for new and expanded services.

Schardin says the demand will lead to building some new substations and power lines.

Schardin says there is a lag in getting the construction materials they need.

Southeastern serves about seventeen thousand meters in an area between Sioux Falls, Parkston, Alcester and Irene.
