ABERDEEN, S.D. (Press Release) – For the past five years, Marty Sabolo has served as the director of residence life at Northern State University. During his time at Northern, he has helped foster a thriving community for the Northern students who live on campus as well as helped raise two new residence halls.
Sabolo, appointed by the mayor of Aberdeen, also serves as a board member of the Aberdeen Housing Authority. In January, he was appointed president of the AHA board.
“Northern State University already has an incredibly strong relationship with the Aberdeen community, and this new position only makes that bond stronger,” Sabolo said on the topic of his new role. “The university is able to build a relationship with the tenants and landlords within the community. The community is then made aware of what we are doing for housing as a university, and we are able to keep up with all of the other housing options in the city of Aberdeen.”
The function of the Aberdeen Housing Authority is to build community in Aberdeen by providing adequate and affordable housing and economic opportunities in a suitable living environment for the residents of Aberdeen. The AHA offers options for public housing, low-income housing, and voucher housing to its clients.
“We are here to assist people in financial need with their housing,” Sabolo said. “There have been some instances where Northern students have been effected by low-income and I am able to help them make that connection with the many housing options around the community. Many of our non-traditional students in particular require a low-income housing option, and in those instances, I am able to reference them to the board.”
