Saints Baseball Gets Off To Slow Start

Ozark, Mo – The Presentation College Saints’ baseball team dropped a pair of games against Mount Marty College earlier today to start their season 0-2. The Lancers took game one by a score of 10-3 and finished the two-game sweep with a 4-1 win in game two. With the sweep, the Lancers improve to 3-3 on the year.

Game One: Presentation College 3, Mount Marty 10

The Saints – who struck out 11 times in the loss – watched game one slip away early as the Lancers put up a four-run first inning for the early 4-0 lead. The Saints managed to cut the deficit down to three after an Angel Faras (SO/Tuscon, AZ) double to deep right field to score newcomer Gilbert Aguilar (FR/Tucson, AZ ) in the third inning. However, the Saints had a tough time shutting down the hot-hitting Lancers as Mount Marty tagged on six runs in the following two innings to extend their lead by nine. In the top of the sixth, the Saints were able to score twice off a MMC wild pitch and a Kyle Angielski (SO/Regina, SK, CAN) ground out to bring home Johnny Radomskiy (JR/Chino Hills, CA) and Angel Faras, but it was ultimately not enough as the Lancers outhit the Saints 10-3 in the win.

It was a tough day offensively as the Lancers struck out 11 Saints in the game. Of the team’s three hits, Radomskiy and Faras each hit a double, while Aguilar singled. On the mound, Austin Crain (JR/Duarte, CA) took the loss as he surrendered seven runs off six hits in four innings of work and while striking out one.

Game Two: Presentation College 1, Mount Marty College 4

The Saints took the early 1-0 lead after Gilbert Aguilar started the top of the third inning with a double to center field. Eric Hernandez (SR/Gilbert, AZ) moved Aguilar to third after a sacrifice bunt, while Angel Faras picked up the lone RBI of the game as he grounded out to second base to bring home Aguilar. From there, all it took was one inning from the Lancers to capture their second win of the day as they poured in four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Neither team was able to produce anything offensively over the next three innings as the Lancers took game two, 4-1.

Once again, offense failed to produce for the Saints as MMC’s Svoboda struck out 12 in the 4-1 loss. The Saints knocked three hits in the game coming from Jace Wyatt (SR/Show Low, AZ) (2B), Gilbert Aguilar (2B) and Johnny Radomskiy.

Chris D’Amico (JR/Grants Pass, OR) took the loss as he let up four runs on seven hits over five innings of work. D’Amico struck out two Lancers and walked none in his first start of the year. Colin Crandall (JR/Littlerock, CA) came in relief in the sixth inning as he let up two hits in one inning of work.
