Aberdeen, SD (NSUWolves.com) – Northern State University head men’s basketball coach Saul Phillips announced today that TrayVonn Wright has joined his staff as an assistant coach for the 2023-24 season. Wright, a former student-athlete under Phillips, joins NSU after a decorated professional career overseas.
“TrayVonn brings a wealth of basketball experience to our staff,” noted Phillips. “His interpersonal skills and ability to relate to the young men on our roster will be highly valuable to our program. Above all else, TrayVonn is great person and will be a great addition to the community.”
“I’m excited to be here at Northen State,” explained Wright. “I look forward to helping the team with my own professional experiences as a player and learning more about the community.”
Wright played for nine professional organizations from 2014-2021 winning numerous awards over the years. He is a 5-time British Basketball League Champion, earning Playoff MVP honors in 2018 as a member of the Leicester Riders. Throughout his professional career, Wright organized and coached at community events across Europe. Wright was rostered with Wels Austria (ABL), Iowa Energy (NBA D-League), Leicester Riders (BBL), Borås Basket (SBL), Rethymno Kings (Greek A1), Hemel Storm (NBDL), BBC Etzella (LTL), Solent Kestrels (BBL), and Surrey Scorchers (BBL).
He spent the last two years working in the private sector for US Cellular and Rocket Mortgage before returning to the basketball ranks.
Wright earned a bachelor’s degree in university studies from North Dakota State University in 2014. He played four seasons with the Bison under the direction of Phillips, appearing in 127 games. Wright scored 1,131 career points and added 622 career rebounds. He shot 46.3% from the floor and averaged double figures assists, steals, and blocks each season. He earned Summit League All-Conference honors following his senior season.
