SB40 passes the South Dakota Senate

PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota Senate on Wednesday debate SB40 that would revise the process for nominating candidates for statewide offices.

The prime sponsor of the bill is Senator David Johnson of Rapid City & he talks what the bill does.

Senator Reynold Nesiba of Sioux Falls offered an amendment to the bill.

The amendment was approved by the South Dakota Senate.

Among those that was opposed to the bill was Senator Tom Pischke of Dell Rapids.

President Pro Temp Senator Lee Schoenbeck  offers his support for the bill.

Senator John Wiik of Big Stone City, who’s also the chair of the Republican Party for the state of South Dakota believes this bill will only cause more division within the party.

The South Dakota Senate voted in favor of the bill on a 18-16 vote.  The bill moves to the South Dakota House of Representatives.
