ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release)- We have had several reports of someone impersonating an officer, claiming to be calling about a legal matter that requires immediate attention.

The scammer is impersonating “Detective Tim Morgan,” with the phone number 605-301-5542. The scammer’s voicemail has been setup to say, “You have reached the Aberdeen Police Department all deputies are busy leave a message.”

As a reminder, APD officers will never ask for payment to prevent a warrant or jail time. APD officers do not handle the collection of fines. In addition, if you do not answer their call, the officer will direct you to call them back through Brown County Dispatch, 605-626-7911.

Any call asking you to pay over the phone with gift cards or money orders is a scam.
