Schaunaman wins mayor race, Rife claims city council position

ABERDEEN, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The challengers knocked off the incumbents in Tuesday’s city election.

In unofficial final vote totals:

Travis Schaunaman defeated Mike Levsen in the race for mayor. Schaunaman finished with 2,557 votes, while Levsen had 1,286. Levsen has been the city’s mayor for the past 15 years.

Josh Rife defeated Jennifer Slaight-Hansen in the race for NW City Council. Rife finished with 708 votes, while Slaight-Hansen had 306.

Both positions are five-year terms.

In the final vote center results from the Best Western Ramkota Hotel and Convention Center, Schaunaman had 338  votes and Levsen 201, while Rife had 220 votes and Slaight-Hansen 92.

There were 3,850 ballots cast with a voter turnout of approximately 24 percent.
