Schools starting budget talks

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – Warnings from South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem of “shocking” sales tax numbers are being heard around the state.

Yankton School Superintendent Wayne Kindle says they have started budget talks early.

Kindle says they talked about some spending options.

School district voters approved a $1.8 million property tax opt out in February, but Kindle says they won’t see that money until some time next year.

Noem has said she will call the legislature into a special session in June to make necessary budget adjustments.
