Schools taking a wait & see approach on the Governor’s plan for civics education

YANKTON, S.D.(WNAX)- South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem announced she will propose a bill to block “action civics” from being taught in public schools. That joins other policy proposals from history to gender definitions.

Yankton School Superintendent Wayne Kindle says like a number of proposals, they will wait to see what comes through the legislature.

Kindle says schools do a good job of following state education policies.

Kindle says the school board involves parents and other citizens in setting education policy.

The state Department of Education is doing another review of history standards which could be adopted for this fall.
