YANKTON, S.D.(WNAX)- While there is a last-ditch effort underway in Congress to extend funding to keep school meals free, most districts are preparing to start charging for food again this fall.
Yankton School District Business Manager Jason Bietz says the free and reduced meal applications will be necessary again.
During the past two years, federal pandemic funding has paid the cost of school meals all year long.
Bietz says they will have an online application site for the free and reduced meal plans.
Bietz says they are working on meal prices for this fall.
The Senate has approved an extension in funding and sent it back to the House just ahead of the Fourth of July break.
