SD adds eight more COVID-related deaths; cases, hospitalizations decrease

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The state’s active COVID cases and hospitalizations continued to drop, and there were eight new deaths according to totals released by the South Dakota Department of Health today. The deaths (which included one in Brown County) increased the state’s overall death toll to 1,389.

South Dakota had 531 new confirmed cases and 836 recoveries, lowering the active infections by more than 300 down to 7,314. The number of individuals hospitalized in connection with the virus fell by four to 337.

In all, the state has had 96,040 confirmed cases and 87,337 recoveries.

Locally, Brown County had 18 new confirmed cases and 32 recoveries, lowering the amount of active infections to 258. So far, the county has had 4,263 confirmed cases and 3,951 recoveries. The county has had 54 COVID-related deaths.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 24,263 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 10,728, and Lincoln County with 6,545. Other counties totals include Codington with 3,332, Brookings with 2,858, Davison with 2,658, Beadle with 2,467, Lawrence with 2,450, and Yankton with 2,399.
