KADOKA, S.D.(KCCR)- The South Dakota Aeronautics Commission has tabled a request by the City of Kadoka for funding to improve lighting and fencing at the Kadoka Municipal Airport. Kadoka Mayor Harry Weller told the Commission without some state support the project likely won’t get done.
Kadoka’s airport is not eligible for federal Airport Improvement Program funds and the combined estimated costs of the 10-foot chain link perimeter fence and airport lighting system is approximately 443-thousand dollars. Mike Schmidt with Helms and Associates of Aberdeen says getting a good estimate of cost will be difficult.
The Aeronautics Commission can award up to 75-thousand dollars for a project. Commission Chair Eric Odenbach says in its current form the project would not get funded.
The City of Kadoka may bring a proposal back to the Aeronautics Commission that is reduces the scope of the project or breaking it up into multiple projects by the end of the year.
