SD Board of Education Standards to hold next meeting April 17th in Pierre

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The South Dakota Board of Education Standards will hold their next  hearing on updating social studies standards on April 17th in Pierre.

The process has become controversial over the sources of the proposed new standards.

Associated School Boards Executive Director Wade Pogany says they have made their position clear to the board.

Pogany says the wholesale changes in the new standards are not needed.

Pogany says public opposition to the standards is pretty clear.

The Board will make a recommendation to the state Department of Education when the hearings wrap up.
