SD Board of Regent could decide on missions for their universities

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The South Dakota Board of Regents may decide on a mission for each of the six state universities.

That’s one of the offshoots of the ongoing SB55 task force.

A bill passed in last years legislature directs the Regents to come up with operating efficiencies for the six campuses.

Regents Vice President for academic planning and policy, Janice Minder, says they may need an outside group to help them setting a future course for each university.

USD President Sheila Gestring says they have seen programs and priorities change.

Regent Joan Wink pointed to Dakota State University in Madison as having defined their mission.

The final report from the SB55 task force is due by November first.
