YANKTON, S.D.(JOster)- The 2025 session of the South Dakota legislature was marked by a transition in the Governor’s office.
Governor Kristi Noem resigned on January 25th to become Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
Upon her departure, Lieutenant Governor Larry Rhoden became Governor.
Dave Owen, President of the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and a long-time lobbyist and observer of the legislature said Noem had her own style.
Owen says Noem was very protective of her image.
Owen says there is a noticeable change with Rhoden in charge.
Owen is making his final post legislative swing around the state. He will be retiring this summer after 27 years at the head of the state chamber.
He appeared in Yankton on Thursday.
