PIERRE, S.D.(KELO)- The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is going over evidence in last week’s police shooting of a suspect.
Sheriff’s deputies were attempting to serve a warrant for a mental illness hold for a person at an assisted living center for people with severe mental illnesses.
Officers shot the suspect when he threatened them with knives.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says DCI Agents are reviewing evidence to determine whether the shooting was justified.
It’s standard procedure for the DCI to review officer involved shootings.
This is the first case of that nature this year.
