SD legislators react to the study of the South Dakota Board of Regents

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- While a study of the operations and programs of the South Dakota Board of Regents and six universities is underway, legislators are already talking about changes.

Senator Jean Hunhoff of Yankton, Chair of the Appropriations Committee, says they want to assure the future of higher education.

Hunhoff says they are looking at duplications of services and programs.

Hunhoff says they know there have been numerous studies in the past.

The Appropriation Committee set up some work groups on individual issues.

One group led by Senator Jack Kolbeck of Sioux Falls will look into diversity on university campuses.

Kolbeck said there have been similar actions in the past.

Kolbeck says they are looking for more information.

A task force formed under last years “SB55” to look for efficiencies in the Regents system is meeting through next month and will have a report back to legislators by November first.
