SD Legislature wants more from the Dept of Education regarding student scores

PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – The Executive Board of the South Dakota legislature heard reports from most of the summer study committees this week.

The Government Operations and Audit Committee had the Department of Education in front of them several times during the interim, and Committee Chairman, Senator Ryan Maher of Isabel, says they got a failing grade.

The committee was concerned about student standardized test scores which are low and stagnant.

Maher says they expect a report from the sub group before the session starts.

Maher also states they asked the department several times to do updates.

The state changed from the Dakota Step to Smarter Balance testing a few years ago.
