PIERRE, S.D.(KMIT)- Week 2 of this year’s South Dakota legislative session begins on Tuesday. The South Dakota Education Department is bringing four bills for lawmakers to consider. One of those bills would address an issue Governor Noem talked about in her budget address last month. Education Secretary Joe Graves.
Governor Noem says since she took office, education funding has gone up more than 26 percent. But South Dakota teacher salaries still rank near the bottom nationally. Graves says he hopes school districts will see the importance of using extra funds for teacher salaries.
House Bill 1048 will first be heard in the House Education Committee. A hearing date has not yet been set.
