PIERRE, S.D.(DRG News)- Now that South Dakota Speaker of the House Spencer Gosch has assigned a resolution calling for the impeachment of state General Jason Ravnsborg to the House State Affairs Committee for it’s first official hearing, more information about the process ahead is becoming known.
House Concurrent Resolution 7001 (HCR7001) was officially read onto the books at the start of yesterday’s (Feb. 24, 2021) floor session.
Gosch says he intends to amend HCR7001 so that he would appoint a committee of 10 that “shall investigate whether the conduct of Jason Ravnsborg, Attorney General of the State of South Dakota, surrounding the death of Joe Boever on September 12, 2020, involved impeachable offenses” pursuant to the state constitution (SD Const., Art. XVI, § 3”). He says the committee shall report its findings and recommendations to the House of Representatives by March 29, 2021.
Gosch says this is an unprecedented situation in the state and the process is subject to change. He says it’s crucial that lawmakers create and open, transparent and fair process for all parties involved.
