SD state government prepping for if Medicaid expansion is approved by the voters

YANKTON, S.D.(WNAX)- Recent polls have shown that Medicaid expansion is likely to be approved by voters in November.

While most of that expansion cost will be paid for by the federal government, the state will have some additional expenditures.

Senator Jean Hunhoff of Yankton, Co-chair of the Joint Committee on Appropriations says they have been considering that.

Hunhoff says they are looking at nearby states to get an idea of what each new user of Medicaid will cost.

Hunhoff says some states are seeing the so called “woodwork effect”.

A poll commissioned by the American Cancer Society found sixty two percent of likely voters would support Amendment “D” in the November election.
