PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The South Dakota State Railroad Board has delayed action on applying for grants on behalf of five projects looking for funding. State Transportation Secretary Joel Jundt says federal officials have not issued a much-needed Notice of Funding Opportunity for S-T-C or Special Transportation Circumstance grants.
The Rapid City, Pierre and Eastern Railroad is seeking an S-T-C grant to make permanent repairs to flood-damaged culverts and trestles from 2019 flooding. Senior Vice President Jerry Vest says the R-C-P and E’s application added four pages of new information.
Ringneck and Western Railroad General Manager Kley Cameron says their resubmitted application addressed questions from the Rail Board.
The Ringneck and Western operates on the former M-R-C line from Mitchell to Presho in Lyman County. Jundt told the Board there may be around six-point-nine million dollars available for S-T-C grants.
