WATERTOWN, S.D.(KMIT)- The South Dakota Department of Transportation plans to use an anti-corrosion process known as metalizing to repair a bridge on I-29 near Watertown. Transportation Commission member Mike Vehle (Valley) explains:
The State Department of Transportation estimated the cost of the repair to be $180,000 but the low bid was from General Excavating of Lincoln, Nebraska at $317,567 which was lower than the other bid from PCI Roads of St. Michael, Minnesota which came in at more than half a million dollars. Commissioner Mike Vehle (Valley) explains why the Transportation Commission accepted the higher-than-expected bid:
The bridge is on I-29 over Stray Horse Creek, four miles northwest of SD22 interchange in Hamlin County.
