Secretary of State talks about potential for hand counting votes going forward

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- Tripp County did a hand count of their general election ballots this month after a group of citizens persuaded their county commission to not use the ballot counting machine.

Secretary of State Steve Barnett says that would not work well in larger counties.

Barnett says each county can decide on how they want to handle elections.

Barnett says legislators may not be open to many more election changes.

It took thirty-nine workers until 5AM on Wednesday after the election to complete the count of about twenty three hundred ballots in Tripp County.
