Senate bill to eliminate the bingo tax clear the chamber

PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- It’s the odd tax that gained notoriety during Governor Kristi Noem’s State of the State address last week.

To kill the bingo tax; introduce Senate Bill 37, which in addition to removing a tax on bingo would eliminate licensing fees associated with bingo gaming.

Those taxes and fees are in addition to any sales taxes that apply to those items.  Jason Evans with the South Dakota Department of Revenue was the only proponent to testify on the bill.  He says the taxes and fees are outdated.

Senate Bill 37 passed on a unanimous seven to zero vote and earned a free pass to the House Taxation Committee by being placed on the Senate’s consent calendar.
