Senator-elect Sydney Davis address the potential repeal of the grocery tax

BURBANK, S.D.(WNAX)- As South Dakota legislators prepare for the 2023 session in January, they will face a decision on cutting the sales tax on groceries.

Governor Kristi Noem made that a center piece of her reelection campaign.

District 17 Senator-elect Sydney Davis of Burbank says she needs to hear more details.

Davis says the cut would be a significant change to the state budget.

Voters approved a constitutional amendment expanding Medicaid coverage. Davis says the legislature may not have much of a role in those changes at first.

Davis was unopposed in her move from the state House to the Senate.
