WATERTOWN, S.D.(KXLG} South Dakota’s 99th Legislative Session is about to commence, and District 5 Senator President Pro Tempore Lee Schoenbeck was in KXLG studios to discuss more.
Senator Schoenbeck started the interview by expressing some gratitude.
In one form or another, Senator Schoenbeck says he has been involved with the South Dakota Legislation for the better part of six decades, accounting for an internship, and is serving as a legislator in his 14th session.
Senator Schoenbeck says Watertown is fortunate to have a diverse industry of manufacturing companies to employ people instead of a community relying on one or very few larger employers. He says childcare/daycare has become the number one issue in South Dakota.
Senator Schoenbeck talks about the flow of federal dollars coming to an end.
Various residents have opposed the location of the future South Dakota State Penitentiary in Lincoln County, but Senator Schoenbeck says the Legislature will only be involved with the funding.
Senator Schoenbeck says the bills regarding “not on my property” are dead.
Potential carbon-capturing pipeline construction projects have seen opposition, and one company has stepped back entirely; Senator Schoenbeck says it will be part of this session.
The session begins on Tuesday.
