Representative Mike Stevens express disappointment on rollout of funds for housing

YANKTON, S.D.(WNAX)- South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem said this week that if the legislature had gone along with her plans for two hundred million dollars in housing infrastructure funds, construction would now be underway.

Instead, the South Dakota Housing Authority is working through the administrative rules needed for the grant program.

Representative Mike Stevens of Yankton says pointing fingers doesn’t help.

Stevens, a member of the Executive Board, says they didn’t get a lot of straight answers from Housing officials last week.

Housing officials told the E-Board that this was the first time they had to write administrative rules for a loan program. Stevens says that seems odd.

The rules, still being written, have to be reviewed and approved by both the Housing Authority Board and the Rules Review Committee of the legislature.
