Senator Rounds discuss bill to eliminate Department of Education

WASHINGTON, D.C.(KCCR)- South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds is leading an effort to eliminate the U-S Department of Education.  He says transferring programs out of the Education Department for him dates back to his time as South Dakota Governor.

Rounds says the U-S Education Department isn’t in the business of educating kids.

Rounds he’s been looking at dismantling the Education Department for the last year and a half.

Under that student loan proposal, the federal government would pay the interest on student loans leaving capital to be paid back over a 15 year period.  Rounds estimates eliminating the Education Department could save one-point-three billion dollars a year.
