WASHINGTON, D.C.(KMIT)- President Joe Biden met with Chinese President Xi Jinping this week. As a result of that meeting, China has agreed to curtail shipments to Mexico of the chemicals used to make fentanyl, the drug at the heart of the U.S. overdose epidemic. Prior to the meeting, South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds was among a group of legislators who sent a letter to President Biden urging him to address the issue with China’s president.
Rounds hoped the two would also discuss the military.
Rounds also said trade should be a topic discussed by the two leaders.
The two leaders met in California. It was their first face-to-face encounter in a year.
