BROOKINGS, S.D. (WNAX) – The heat index in the Northern Plains will be in the triple digits most of the week. That will mean heat issues with livestock and making it challenging for producers to keep them cool.
SDSU Extension Veterinarian Dr. Russ Daly says providing reliable shade and water for the animals is critical.
He says its important producers start early with the cooling of the animals.
Daly says making feed adjustments is a good idea to help livestock withstand the heat spell.
Daly says the USDA has great resources available for producers to access. He says you can google up heat stress on the USDA website and receive helpful information.
