Sioux Falls City Council working on their budget

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KELO)- Sioux Falls City Councilors will start voting on budget items next week.

As they do, it’s becoming more apparent that the revenue side of this year’s spending plan is lagging behind expectations.

Sales tax revenues are slightly higher than they were last year, but city Finance Director Shawn Prichett says they’re well below budget projections.

Tax collections are up by about 1.7-percent so far this year, but it would take a seven-percent increase to hit revenue projects in the current budget.

Pritchett says he expects to see some improvement as we move toward year-end.

Depending on snow removal expenses later this year, Pritchett says reserves will more than cover the shortfall.
