Smittys Drop Doubleheader to Post 74

Game 1 

Post 74 Bandits 13, Aberdeen Smittys 0 

The Aberdeen Smittys couldn’t keep pace with the Post 74 Bandits in a 13-0 loss on Tuesday.

Post 74 jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Talon Hyde delivered a three-run double, and another run scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Noah Lease to make it 4-0.

The Bandits added six more runs in the second inning. Hyde drove in a run with a single, Cooper Schneider followed with a two-run single, an Aberdeen error brought home another run, a steal of home added one more, and Maxten Jensen capped the inning with an RBI groundout.

Post 74 extended its lead in the third when Baker Hanson singled home a run before Jay Harris lined a two-run double.

Drake Soderlund took the loss for the Smittys, allowing 10 runs, six earned, on seven hits over two innings while striking out one. JaSean Rivera pitched the final three innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Nolan Krogman earned the win for the Bandits, tossing 5  scoreless innings while allowing two hits, striking out five, and walking two.

Rivera and Benny Eisenbeisz each collected a hit for Aberdeen, while the Smittys also turned one double play defensively.

Post 74 finished with 11 hits, led by Hanson, who went 3-for-4. Hyde, Schneider, and Harris each drove in two runs. Hanson and Schneider each stole multiple bases as the Bandits totaled seven stolen bases. Post 74 also played error-free defense, with Hyde recording a team-high five defensive chances.

Game 2 

Post 74 Bandits 18, Aberdeen Smittys 6 

Aberdeen Smittys couldn’t hold onto an early four-run advantage in Game 2 of the doubleheader, falling 18-6 to the Post 74 Bandits.

Aberdeen jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Michael Dutenhoffer drove in the game’s first run with a groundout before a dropped third strike allowed two more runs to score. Benny Eisenbeisz capped the inning with an RBI single.

The Bandits answered in the third, scoring five runs to take a 5-4 lead. Cooper Schneider delivered the key hit with a two-run single.

Levi Hoffman brought Smittys back within striking distance in the fourth, blasting a solo home run to left field.

Post 74 put the game away with a 10-run fifth inning. Nolan Krogman highlighted the rally with a two-run triple, Jase Bauer added a two-run single, Talon Hyde drove in a run with a groundout, Jude Meendering and Krogman each forced in a run with walks, and Baker Hanson broke the game open with a three-run double.

Branson Peterson started on the mound for the Smittys, allowing eight runs (three earned) on four hits over four innings while striking out two and walking five.

Hoffman led the Smittys offense, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Hoffman and Jackson Post each collected two hits in the loss.

The Smittys return to action Thursday, hosting PCBA Post 18 for a doubleheader with games scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m..
