RAPID CITY, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – After a tough outing on Wednesday night at Fossum Field against Watertown Post 17, the Aberdeen Smittys quickly flushed the doubleheader loss and hit the road to Rapid City to take on the Post 320 squad. The Stars of Rapid would sweep the Smittys, winning game one 10-6 & stealing game two, 4-3.
In the first game of two, it was a back and forth affair with both offenses finding their way early & both defenses looking for answers. Post 320 erred in the field five times & Aberdeen three times, for eight combined errors. The Smittys struck for two in the top of the first inning to take an early lead, but Post 320 would rally back with four runs of their own in the first two innings. Aberdeen re-gained a 5-4 advantage going into the bottom of the fourth, but couldn’t make the lead hold up. Jaxon Ladner took the loss in relief of Grant Beyer, going three innings, surrendering nine hits, six runs, four of them earned. Post 320 added three, two run innings in the fourth, fifth & sixth innings, respectively to win 10-6.
In game two, Aberdeen led 3-0 and battled through many tough spots to keep Post 320 at bay, highlighted by Cooper Eisenbeisz getting out of a bases loaded jam with only one out in the bottom of the third unscathed. Unfortunately for the Smittys, their luck would run out late in the game, eventually falling 4-3. In the game’s final at bat, Joe Cogley battled tough, drawing the count full & fouling off a pitch, but ultimately struck out swinging as the Smittys went down in order to end the game.
The Smittys & the Post 320 Stars will battle again on Friday morning at 11a & game two to follow from out west.
