STURGIS, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – The Aberdeen Smittys wrapped up their regular season on Friday out west & they brought their boom-sticks along with them. The Smittys picked up a pair of wins against the Post 33 squad, winning game one 18-5 & then a 15-7 win in game two; combining for 33 runs against Post 33.
In the first game of two, Aberdeen struck early & then kept their foot on the gas pedal offensively. The Smittys hit for three runs in the first, six in the second, four more in the third and just for good measure, five more runs in the fourth.
On offense, Lance Siefken led the charge, going 2-3 with three runs scored & he drove in five. In the six hole, Ridley Waldo went a steady 2-3 with three runs knocked in. Karson Borge and Joran Foss drove in a pair of runs each; Borge also scored four times – the same can be said for Jehiel Aviles, who went 3-4 with four runs scored.
On the hill, Joran Foss earned the win, he went four innings and scattered five hits, five runs, four of them earned and he also struck out five Post 33 batters.
In the second game, the Smittys offense picked up right where the left off. They’d strike first with three runs in the top of the first, add three more in the second and add single tallies in the third and the fifth. The Titans of Post 33 made things interesting as they pieced together a solid offensive day. The first game only went to five innings because of the Smittys 10-run ruling Sturgis, but it’d be a 8-7 Smittys lead going into the final frame.
Aberdeen put the game on ice by putting up a lucky number seven in the top of the frame to take commanding 15-7 lead & that’d be the final score. Grant Beyer earned the win on the hill, going five innings and scattering nine hits, seven runs, six of them earned and three strikeouts. The offense provided more than enough help, as three different Smittys had three RBI, each. Karson Borge, Lance Siefken and Joran Foss combined for 9RBI (three each). Jehiel Aviles went 3-4 with three runs scored and a pair of runs driven in. Bennett Eisenbeisz also went 2-4 with a run scored and two runs driven in.
The Smittys end their regular season 12-24, but winners of their last five games and playing their best baseball at the end of the season.
“Do not let the Smittys get hot…” said head coach Nathan Gonnelly post game, “the most dangerous team in the playoffs is a team that’s hot and plays and has fun, that’s what the boys are doing right now.”
