Smittys Open With Wednesday Split

LISBON, ND (HubCityRadio.com) – The Aberdeen Smittys opened up their 2024 legion baseball season on Wednesday night up in Lisbon, ND and they picked up a split. In game one, the offense came out hot with a three-spot in the top of the first inning + adding five more in the top of the second inning to build a comfortable lead. At the dish, Phillip Zens went 2-4 with 3RBI and a run scored. Casey Vining also got into the fold, going 2-5 with a run scored & 2RBI. The Smittys were very patient at the plate, as they drew 13 walks in the victory. On the hill, Cooper Eisenbeisz picked up the win, he went four & two thirds innings and scattered six hits and five runs, while striking out six. In relief, Phillip Zens was just about lights-out. He struck out seven Lisbon hitters over 2 and a third innings of work.

In game two, the Smittys fell 4-3 to Lisbon in just a five inning affair. Donnie Soderlund took the loss on the hill, going three innings and surrendering four hits & four runs, but none of them were earned & he also struck out six. The Aberdeen defense struggled in game two, notching four errors in the field. Offensively, Aberdeen got RBI’s from Casey Vining & Grant Beyer. The same two teams will play again this coming Sunday at noon & 2p at Fossum Field for an afternoon twinbill.
